Über diesen Titel

'You can look at my life in two ways. Some people see a nightmare, some see a fairytale. I've just always thought I was lucky...People often ask me how I did it, this book is my answer. This is my story, everything I've learned along the way, I hope it can help you find your own luck. '

Lottie Tomlinson has gone through a huge amount in her 23 years on this planet. Touring with her brother Louis as a make-up artist with One Direction at the age of 16, you'd think her life was a fairytale. But this only masked the tragedy happening at home, when her mother became ill with leukaemia and died when Lottie was just 18. Leaving behind five smaller siblings, Lottie came home and tried to find a way to hold the family together. But sadly, tragedy struck again when the family lost Lottie's little sister Félicité, at just 18.

Despite all this, incredibly Lottie has built a successful business empire, has a loving stable partner and now is the mother to a beautiful baby boy, called Lucky.

Lucky Girl is Lottie's story of resilience and the lessons she's learned along the way. Going behind the beauty and the fame, Lottie's beautiful memoir explores the rollercoaster of her life, from the darkest days and loneliest nights to the success she found despite it all, and how all the challenges and setbacks have led her to where she is today.

Heartbreaking yet inspirational, Lottie hopes that in telling her story and how she has navigated the pain and grief in her life that she will provide hope for others going through their darkest times.

I really loved to have heard Lottie's story in her own words. Listeting to her little stories, to her sharing the feelings, reflexing them - it was so heartwarming to me. I even found myself eventually wishing this book never ends. The concept of "lucky girl" or being lucky in general hits really close to home, so having someone putting it in words even though they went through so much pain - it's inspiring. This book came to me just in time and if you're also looking for something to comfort you in hard times and to give you hope, I'd definitely say to listen to Lottie's story.

Comforting and faithful

Lottie Tomlinson is undeniably an interesting and inspiring person, and I was genuinely curious to hear her story in Lucky Girl. She has a warm, pleasant voice and did a good job narrating the audiobook herself but unfortunately, the writing didn’t live up to her delivery.

The book suffers from a lot of repetition and feels quite bland overall. The reflections on grief, which could have been powerful and moving, often fell flat or were awkwardly phrased, frequently circling back to the Sue Ryder charity without deeper emotional insight or variation. While I understand how difficult it must be to write about such personal topics especially for someone who isn't a professional writer I did expect a higher level of editorial support. Given that this was published by an established publisher, it’s disappointing that the writing wasn’t shaped into something more engaging and cohesive.

I truly respect Lottie for sharing her story, and I’m sure it will resonate with some listeners. But from a literary and storytelling perspective, it missed the mark for me.

I really wanted to love this one
