All Roads Lead to Sovereign Mountain
After a difficult start in Kentucky, Jensen Childress has spent the last twenty years living out his childhood dream of being a cowboy. Single and guarded, he’s evaded his past and the man who ruined his life by keeping his head down in Montana.
Until one night, he meets Della, a captivating woman who steals his heart. As quickly as they fall for each other, he discovers she’s hiding a terrible secret entangled with his devastating past.
And she’s desperate for his help.
Rocked by betrayal, but still convinced there’s a chance Della could be the woman for him, Jensen takes this as his opportunity to lay his ghosts to rest. Even if it means going back to the one place on Earth he swore he’d never see again.
Together, they return to the mountains to face their demons. There, in the dangerous world of Jensen’s past and Della’s present, they find themselves unraveling years of pain as they fight for a better future.
©2025 Morris Edwards Publishing (P)2025 Dreamscape MediaFirst: The narration was excellent—Christian Leatherman and Hannah Chiclana did a top-notch job. Their accents took a moment to adjust to, but once I settled in, they made the story feel incredibly authentic and immersive. They brought both characters to life and elevated the whole experience.
This installment, however, felt completely different from the rest of the series in tone, atmosphere, and even writing style. Where the first two books had almost poetic descriptions of the backdrops and the FMCs’ lives, Jensen felt much more modern and straightforward. The shift in tone, setting, accents, and overall vibe made it feel like it belonged to another century entirely.
Still, it was absolutely a page-turner—suspenseful, tense, and very thrilling toward the end. Both Jensen and Della were very likable characters: damaged, hurt, robbed of choices in their past relationships, and both fighting their own demons. I only wish their romance had been more of a slow burn. Instead, the heat kicked in fast and felt very different from the earlier books.
My heart broke for Jensen when he confessed to the Brothers that, as a teenager, he had been groomed by Holly—an older woman who introduced him early to sadism and fetish play, leaving him feeling like he can’t function in any other dynamic now. Della, meanwhile, was a strong FMC just trying to free herself and her son from an abusive ex-husband. I rooted for her instantly.
What I missed was the continuity with previous characters. There was no interaction at all with Gerard or Westin and only minimal contact with Deacon and Jack. This book easily could have been a standalone, as it barely tied into the Sovereign Mountain storyline.
The spice was intense and very frequent, especially in the first 60% of the book. Overall, this is a highly engaging dark cowboy erotica with thrilling moments, even if it stands apart from the rest of the series in style and tone.
highly engaging dark spicy cowboy romance with great narration
