After Ted survives a heart attack, both see it as a new beginning...but can a faded love like theirs ever be rekindled?

I've never been to Morecambe, but reading this novella, I've felt a strange connection to place and characters. I'm crediting this to Cath Barton's writing, which is nothing short of a gift to readers: precise, gentle and lyrical, with a stunning ability to put into words what I assume are many, many observations of long-term relationship(s).

"People are something else; they open your eyes to things you've not thought of, they really do."
The story of Ted and Rene throughout the decades certainly did that for me, it made me think of the "what ifs" of relationships and the patches that hold couples together, among other things.

Cath Barton's writing shows much empathy for her characters, flaws and all, which I loved. Sometimes, I was wondering about certain characters and their role in this novella, but it all came full circle in the end, and left me with a feeling of comfort. I cannot wait to read/listen to more Cath Barton.
