Paola moved her glasses up from the ridge of her nose, where they had slid down to over the course of the evening lecture. The day was sweltering, and the heat almost overrode the air conditioning, so she was glad when her classes for the day were finally over. She glanced to her right.
Stretched out on the seat with his laptop propped up on his knees and a pair of expensive headphones covering his ears, Francesco was nodding to the beat of the song to which he was listening. He had been doing this ever since he entered the lecture hall, and he clearly hadn’t paid any attention to the professor at all. It was a miracle he managed to pass all his exams, but with a copy of Paola’s careful notes in hand, Francesco had breezed through most of the semester.
He had only ever spoken to her to ask to borrow her notes. Even then, his words had been short and few - no idle chitchat....
