The Simulmatics Corporation, founded in 1959, mined data, targeted voters, accelerated news, manipulated consumers, destabilized politics, and disordered knowledge--decades before Facebook, Google, Amazon, and Cambridge Analytica. Silicon Valley likes to imagine it has no past but the scientists of Simulmatics are the long-dead grandfathers of Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk.

The book begins by current-year political lecturing which is passing the verdict about the people and events the book is supposed to report on. I bought this to learn about the people and events in the story not the exceedingly trite opinions of the author.
The book is supposed to be about a bunch of highly intelligent computer pioneers.
It speaks of a certain kind of megalomania on the side of the thoroughly average author, to try and pass judgement on her betters trough the veil of history and by today's standards before even reporting on their story.
