Über diesen Titel
It's early September in Glenkillen, Scotland, when American expat (and budding romance novelist) Eden Elliott is recruited by the local inspector to act as a special constable. Fortunately it's in name only, since not much happens in Glenkillen. For now Eden has her hands full with other things: preparing for the sheepdog trial on the MacBride farm, a fundraiser for the local hospice, and helping her friend Vicki with her first yarn club skein-of-the-month deliveries.
Everything seems to be coming together until the head of the welcoming committee is found strangled to death with a club member's yarn. Now Eden feels compelled to honor her commitment as constable and herd together the clues, figure out which ones are dogs, and which ones will lead to a ruthless killer...
©2015 Deb Baker (P)2018 TantorThe protagonist, a US writer of romance, solves a murder case pretty much on her own, kindly informing the detective about her progress now and then and using pepper spray in self-defense whenever she gets the chance.
One suspect gets dropped from her list because he is left-handed and can therefore not have tied the fatal knot - which sounds clever but is, frankly, rubbish. I tie my knots and bows like a left-handed person would although I am right-handed, simple because I was taught by my (also right)-handed father who had once been taught by his left-handed mother. But that's not the only inaccuracy. The list goes on. I'm sure proper police officers would have a good laugh at how this "investigation" is handled.
The final water scene is meant to be very dramatic but I found myself chuckling rather than holding my breath because it was just a little over the top - like the rest of the book. American style.
However, I enjoyed the Scottish setting again, and I do like the detective bloke. Also, the narrator has a pleasant voice and does a decent job in impersonating the characters.
Works quite well as a bedtime story. (It's not too bad if you miss a scene or two, either.)
Good for light reading but don't expect too much.
