Über diesen Titel
It's nearly Christmas at Longbourn. Elizabeth Bennet's beloved sister Jane has just wed Charles Bingley, mere weeks after the Netherfield Ball. Elizabeth's best friend Charlotte has married Mr. Collins. Elizabeth's nemesis, Mr. Darcy, has departed the county, while her favorite relations, the Gardiners, have come up from London. She ought to be overjoyed. Instead, she's miserable.
Amidst the Christmastide chaos, things go from bad to worse, and on the night before the whole family intends to depart for the Bingleys' new estate in Derbyshire, Elizabeth's temper boils over. In the morning she wakes to an empty house... and a shocking discovery....
Whether her family has left her behind as a punishment or simply forgotten about her, Elizabeth obstinately insists she shall make the most of the rare solitude at her home - but she is not the only one who intends to take advantage of her family's absence. Elizabeth overhears a pair of devious officers planning a holiday heist at her home, and she is shocked to learn a few other soldiers she once trusted are involved in the conspiracy.
When Fitzwilliam and Georgiana Darcy's journey north to Pemberley is interrupted by a snowstorm, they seek refuge in Meryton, and find both romance and retribution in the air as they team up with Elizabeth Bennet to defend her home against a band of treacherous thieves. Swoon-worthy courtship and high-stakes shenanigans abound in this holiday novella....
When she wakes the next day Longbourn is quiet - too quiet. Soon Elizabeth realizes that the others departed without her. Has her family left her behind as a punishment or have they simply forgotten her? Elizabeth tries to make the most of the unexpected solitude but then she overhears some officers say that they plan to use the absence of the Bennets to rob their home. While thinking about what to do Elizabeth encounters Darcy and his sister. They are on their way north but a snowstorm interrupts their journey in Merython.
Will they help Elizabeth to keep her home safe? Will this unexpected encounter with Darcy show her another side of him that will eventually lead to happiness? And will the Bennets return to retrieve Elizabeth?
The story was very well written by the author Jayne Bamber. As you may imagine by the title you may find similarities with a popular Christmas movie. But do not fear, Jayne Bamber’s variation is very well done because Elizabeth’s story is, despite the similarities to the movie, a story on its own and everything fits well together. I therefore enjoyed it very much when particular scenes reminded me of the film. The whole story was very funny and charming and I enjoyed it very much.
Jayne Bamber is the queen of crossovers, but this variation is only about the characters of Pride and Prejudice.
I always enjoy stories where Darcy and Elizabeth are forced to spend time together. I find it even more enjoyable when they need to solve a problem together. Therefore this story is exactly to my liking. Darcy and his sister are trapped at Longbourn because of the snowstorm. And as soon as Darcy learns of Elizabeth's predicament he is, in addition, not willing to leave because he wants to help and protect her. And they work so well together. I like the inventiveness of all protectors of Longbourn. Their methods to protect the values of the Bennet family are very unconventional but effective.
Due to the absence of the Bennet family and the focus of the protector on the upcoming robbery, Darcy and Elizabeth experience a bit more freedom in being together. This leads to some very delightful scenes between ODC. I especially liked the cosy scene in the library. Due to this additional freedom Darcy and Elizabeth get to know each other in a way that would have otherwise not been possible. The knowledge is deeper and more varied (one normally does not get knowledge of how the other defends himself against robbery ;-) ) . I really like that Darcy and Elizabeth get a little glimpse of how they could work together as a married couple.
When there is a plan to rob the possessions of the Bennet family, you can be assured that there are some villains in the story ;-) . Fortunately the Longbourn protectors are able to prevent their success and therefore the villains face their punishment in the end.
The story was narrated by Harry Frost. I always enjoy his narrations very much. This story was no exception. Listening to him narrating a story is always like sitting with old friends at a table and listening to their chatter. I always feel like being amongst them. I really like that I’m, due to his narration, at every time of the story able to tell who is talking to whom. His narration definitely makes a great story even better.
If you like to know if being forgotten at Longbourn leads to Elizabeth’s happiness you should definitely listen to this excellent story.
I highly recommend it.
I received a free code of the audiobook in a give away from the narrator and am voluntarily leaving a review.
