Fantastic to listen, absolute enjoyable. The narration is mind blowing and the story grabs you right from the beginning, you learn a lot about old British history with a twist of Agatha Christie’s crime stories. Love it, hope the series will go on.

Very enjoyable

I'm not a native speaker, so I am not sure, whether the speaker is native British or American imitating a British accent, she sounds British though. If you have once listened to Nathaniel Parker, it's difficult to rate any other speaker anyway. I wouldn't get too excited about the story crime-wise, but if you like extensive descriptions and the British way of life, this is an audiobook to go. It's just nice to listen to it while doing housework.

I have read many reviews to this, and one thing I have to say: How darn clever to choose for the main character to have lived in the States for a longish period and dealing with US customers mostly, now that she's back home! How many cozy mysteries have been disected and/or bashed for their mixture of American and British language. This main character provides a perfectly good excuse for moving in both worlds.
What's more, she's a really likeable down-to-earth person. Everyday troubles, everyday delights. She does not ever think she can do better than the police by going into a dark room looking for a black cat ... Brits will get the end of that sentence :-)
She doesn't take unneccessary risks going on blind missions.
There are a few signs of romance ensuing, but nothing to bust the "cozy" label. The main character is as confused as we are in this book about the prospectors.
Last words: If you don't like dogs, you might not like this series. The puppy (she didn't want) takes quite some room.
I got the second installment right away and have nearly finished the Cornish mystery ,,,
