Über diesen Titel

A crew must try to survive on an ancient, abandoned planet in the latest space-horror novel from S.A. Barnes, acclaimed author of Dead Silence.

An abandoned plant. A hidden past. A deadly danger.

Psychologist Dr. Ophelia Bray has dedicated her life to the study and prevention of ERS—the most famous case of which resulted in the brutal murders of twenty-nine people. It's personal to her, and when she's assigned to a small exploration crew who recently suffered the tragic death of a colleague, she wants to help. But as they begin to establish residency on an abandoned planet, it becomes clear that crew is hiding something.

And Ophelia's crewmates are far more interested in investigating the eerie, ancient planet and unraveling the mystery behind the previous colonizers' hasty departure than opening up to her.

That is, until their pilot is discovered gruesomely murdered. Is this Ophelia’s worst nightmare starting—a wave of violence and mental deterioration from ERS? Or is it something even more sinister?

Terrified that history will repeat itself, Ophelia and the crew must work together to figure out what’s happening. But trust is hard to come by…and the crew isn’t the only one keeping secrets.

Kritikerstimmen

“Perfectly unsettling. Ghost Station scratches the itch for space horror just right—and doesn’t shrink from the grisly consequences of exploring the unknown.”—Chloe Gong, New York Times bestselling author of These Violent Delights

Ghost Station is everything I could want in a horror story and more. Barnes became one of my favorite authors with Dead Silence and this is a stunning follow-up. Highly recommended.”–Darcy Coates, USA Today bestselling author of Dead of Winter

“A skin-crawling, delicious tale of exploration, exploitation, and electrifying horror. I loved (and screeched through) every moment of it.”—Yume Kitasei, author of The Deep Sky

A whiny protagonist finds herself battling an alien infestation in company of a bunch a grade A A-holes. Oh and it takes place in space. Now if you happen to be a billionaire’s child with daddy issues, this might just be your substitute for therapy. For all others; stay away. The only thing worse than the constant inner angst monologue is the narrator. She could infuse a sense of emotional turmoil into a math equation. “Her fear dripped down her soul like the honey her father had for breakfast…little BIIIIRD!”

Man did I want this one to be great. It’s not. Sadly.

I liked the atmosphere and world building, the not all likeable characters and the very complete feeling story progression.

Would I call it horror? Mild horror perhaps. Nothing to make your neck tingle but entertaining.

The inner monologue didn't feel unnecessary but not as deep I would expect from a character that is a therapist. So a little flat sometimes. And I don't mind main characters which are a little bit irritating as long as it contributes to the plot. But I must say that what the background story of Ophelia does to her felt kinda half-baked. There was more potential in her re/actions and it would be an opportunity to shorten her inner monologue.
What the main character may lack, the description of the surroundings and interactions between characters compensated. The emptiness of the environments and underlying feeling of being lost and threatened was tangible.

I am always thankful for the lack of a romantic side story appearing forced or as an afterthought. The relationships between the characters varied nicely and to use them to underline and progress the plot but not make them the main focus of the story felt balanced.

so, yes, I liked it.
