Über diesen Titel
Seizing his one chance to escape, Ethan Hosking leaves his violent ex-boyfriend, leaves his entire life, and walks into the path of a raging bushfire. Desperate to start over, a new man named Aubrey Hobbs walks out of the fire-ravaged forest, alive and alone. With no ID and no money, nothing but his grandfather's telescope, he goes where the Southern Cross leads him.
Patrick Carney is the resident lighthouse keeper in Hadley Cove, a small town on the remote Kangaroo Island off the coast of South Australia. After the tragic death of his lover four years ago, he lives a solitary life; just him, a tabby cat, the Indian and Southern Oceans, and a whole lot of loneliness. He's content with his life until a stranger shows up in town and turns Patrick's head.
Patrick never expected to be interested in anyone else.
Aubrey never expected to be happy.
Between Aubrey's love of the stars and Patrick's love of the ocean, these two fragile hearts must navigate new waters. If they can weather the storm of their pasts, they could very well have a love that eclipses everything.
Contains mature themes.

His long journey lead him to Patrick, at the right time.
Together they heal and create their lives. Is it written in the stars - who knows?

I think that is why I'm so drawn to that kind of stories. I also loved this authors "Yanni's Story". Even though I abhor abuse, homophobia etc. I love stories about people's stories about the times after the fact, their road to happiness and fulfillment. And that is exactly what this book is about. It is about two people finding each other at the right moment in time, one still grieving for a man he dearly loved and one running away from the shadows of his past abuser. They both sooth each other, find strength and love in each other's arms.
It took me the second time around to understand what Aubrey really was afraid of, why he didn't want to confide in Patrick. It wasn't that he was afraid, that Patrick would love him less or see him as weak. He wanted to protect him and give him plausible deniability because he knew he had broken the law. He actually confided little bits about his past, just not the ones that could, in his mind, get Patrick into trouble should the police later talk to him.
The only thing I cannot understand is why he didn't go to the police in the first place. But that is my self talking, a person who has gladly never been in such a position myself. I don't know what goes on in the head of an abuse victim. I hear that oftentimes they don't think rationally when it comes to those kind of things. That they are so mentally manipulated that they think that the police won't be able to help them or that the abuser has far more reach than they actually have.
I'm just glad that Patrick and Aubrey found each other... and maybe it actually was fate, was meant to be somehow.
The only sad thing about the book is sadly Joel Leslie. I keep doing this to myself, because I love listening to my favorite books being read to me, but mr. Leslie's voice just sadly isn't for me.
Book quotes:
If I was adrift and lost, and I certainly felt it some days, then he was my shining beacon, my tether and guide to something good and whole.
My lighthouse.
Maybe it was something I needed to say. Maybe it was something he needed to hear. I dunked the bread into the soup and said, "Everything about you means comfort to me. The way you wrap your arms around me is like a blanket. your voice is never loud or angry, just warm and safe." I ate the bread without looking at him. I felt if he saw the vulnerability in my eyes, I'd break apart. "Kind of like I'm lost at sea and you're the lighthouse and safe harbour. I know when I'm with you, no one can hurt me."
Such a beautiful and romantic story!

Has an AI come up with this story pattern which more and more writers seem to adopt? People, make your stories steamy from the start or cut out on the juices all together! But not like this, which is neitger here nor there.
Surprisingly, Joel Lesley did a decent job this time, holding back on his usual annoyingly whinig speech pattern. I rather liked how he interpreted the characters.
Another one of these...
