The narrator conveys the whole atmosphere perfectly. Especially the decadence and growing insanity of the Emperor‘s Children as well of the other characters.

there was a series of small fluff-inconsistencies and it would have been nice if the story had not relied on "perfection " whenever exploring the motivation of the Emperors children
the speaker made the Astartes sound effeminate, which I didn't enjoy

This book made Fall in love with the emperor’s children. I‘ve spent so much time thinking about this book after reading. The story is such a great tragedy.

My favourite book of the series

The fifth book of the Horus Heresy series follows the Emperors Children and the slow descent of madness they find themselves spiralling into after defeating a xenos race. It would be a great listen, however it is strongly hampered by the speaker. David Timson does in no way do a bad job at reading this, I just feel like the tone in which he reads is completely inapropriate for this kind of material. When describing the vile madness aboard the starship and within the expedition his voice always has a whimsical, joyous quality to it that would be more appropriate for a childrens story or a YA novel. The Warhammer universe has always had a somewhat riddicoulus quality to it, however I always found that easy to ignore and give myself into stories of advanced supermen fighting to cleanse the galaxy of xenos filth in the name of the emperor. This is made extremely hard though when you can not shake the feeling that the reader always seems to have a smile on his lips and is reading it in a voice more appropriate for childrens stories. Again, no offense intended here, his actual reading is very good just the tone of it does not fit the story that is told. Consider purchasing the book and reading it for yourself, if you are too lazy to do that be prepared for an illfitting voice acor.

While the voices for established characters sound less rugged, the Emperor's children's traits are perfectly captured.

Overall the performance is really good. However, I didn't appreciate the voice inconsistency of the same characters from the previous books

The story wastes a lot of time explaining the mental gymnastics to join the dark path of the emperor's children. I cared little for the characters of the side story. I always feel like the most interesting aspects of the story got the least amount of time.
The reader did his best, but some of his acting left an annoying impact on me

I've really enjoyed the Horus Heresy series so far, but Fulgrim was a letdown. The book is overwhelmingly focused on glorifying Fulgrim to the point of monotony—every scene seems dedicated to describing how perfect, powerful, and unbeatable he is, without showing meaningful character depth or development. Unlike other entries in the series that offer compelling characters and engaging storylines, this one feels flat and repetitive. A frustrating read in an otherwise excellent saga.

Der Sprecher war meiner Meinung nach der bisher schwächste der Serie. Die Geschichte hat mir nicht gefallen. Ich empfand sie als zu abgedreht.
