A country music star finds inspiration in a ruggedly handsome cowboy while visiting Silver Pines Ranch, but can their budding love story ever become more than a one-hit wonder?
She's a star on the rise. He just wants to see her shine.
Rising country star Cassie Spencer's music career is just taking off when tragedy strikes mid-tour. Seeking solace, she retreats to rural Kentucky to escape the spotlight and visit her family.
Haden Westbrook, the charming heartthrob of Laurel Creek, only wants one thing: a peaceful life tending to the Silver Pines Ranch and his rescue horses. But when free-spirited Cassie hurricanes back into town, his world turns upside down. Especially since the last time he saw her ended with a steamy night in his truck.
They'd promised then that it would be a one-time thing. But now, as Cassie and Haden spend more time together, their undeniable chemistry reignites. Cassie's stay at Silver Pines was meant to be temporary. But as their spring fling turns into something deeper, can Haden convince her to stay?
©2025 Paisley Hope (P)2025 Podium AudioAs someone who has thoroughly enjoyed Paisley Hope’s Silver Pines Ranch series so far, I was really looking forward to Freeing the Wild. While the story had many of the emotional beats and charm I’ve come to expect from the author, this one was a bit of a mixed experience for me.
In the first 30% of the book, I really struggled to connect with Cassie. She came off as entitled, high-maintenance, and drowning in self-pity—almost like a princess playing out her drama in a bottle of whiskey, despite her mother’s struggles with alcoholism. She also tended to avoid taking accountability when she was in the wrong, which made it hard to root for her initially. But to her credit, there was solid character development over time, and by the midpoint I was more emotionally invested in her growth.
Hayden, on the other hand, was a fantastic MMC from the beginning. Kind, steady, and emotionally grounded—he really carried the emotional core of the story for me. His interactions with Cassie were full of slow-burn tension, and his patience made their dynamic believable and enjoyable.
As for the narration: Grayson Owens did a stellar job as always. His voice fits the western romance setting perfectly and brought Hayden’s character to life. He is always a treat. Unfortunately, I really disliked Lucy Rivers’ performance throughout. Her breathy delivery was distracting, and her male character voice pulled me out of the story every time. It’s the first time this series has featured new narrators, and while I usually enjoy variety, this pairing didn’t quite work for me. A pity, because Grayson Owens delivery was excellent.
Despite the rocky start and my issues with the narration, Freeing the Wild turned out to be a cute, heartfelt read. If you’ve been following the series, it’s worth picking up to see how Cassie and Hayden’s story unfolds—just be prepared for a bit of a slow emotional burn.
Cute heartfelt romance
