Winner of the Hugo Award for Best All-Time Series.
The Foundation series is Isaac Asimov’s iconic masterpiece. Unfolding against the backdrop of a crumbling Galactic Empire, the story of Hari Seldon’s two Foundations is a lasting testament to an extraordinary imagination, one whose unprecedented scale shaped science fiction as we know it today.
The Galactic Empire has prospered for 12,000 years. Nobody suspects that the heart of the thriving Empire is rotten, until psychohistorian Hari Seldon uses his new science to foresee its terrible fate.
Exiled to the desolate planet Terminus, Seldon establishes a colony of the greatest minds in the Empire, a Foundation which holds the key to changing the fate of the galaxy.
However, the death throes of the Empire breed hostile new enemies, and the young Foundation’s fate will be threatened first.
Kritikerstimmen
"One of the most staggering achievements in modern SF." (The Times)
"Isaac Asimov was one of the great explainers of the age...It will never be known how many practising scientists today, in how many countries, owe their initial inspiration to a book, article, or short story by Isaac Asimov." (Carl Sagan)
"Asimov displayed one of the most dynamic imaginations in science fiction." (Daily Telegraph)

A native of one of the helpless Nebular Kingdoms, he saw his home world conquered and controlled by the planet Tyrann - a ruthless, barbaric Empire that was building a dynasty of cruelty and domination among the stars. Geschichte
In this major statement, the renowned international-relations scholar John Mearsheimer argues that liberal hegemony, the foreign policy pursued by the United States since the Cold War ended, is doomed to fail. It makes far more sense, he maintains, for Washington to adopt a more restrained foreign policy based on a sound understanding of how nationalism and realism constrain great powers abroad.

a fun romp
Very enjoyable. I Like Asimov's narrative very much. It is dated and certainly not as action packed as modern audiences are used to, but the idea of reasoning and knowledge triumphing over brute force appeals to me a great deal. There is a lot that could be said about the purely male main characters but I think, as is so often the case
with classical works, that the Foundation Trilogy has to be seen in the context of it's own time . There is a reason though it has become a classic.
The audiobooks narrator took some getting used to on my part since I prefer british narrators over american ones but He did a good job.
All in all a good experience.

The poorest book of an outdated trilogy
Asimov is the literary equivalent of Jimi Hendrix - both intitated a movement in their fields but the substance of their work is mediocre at best. Jimi was a great player but his music is “shit”. Asimov had good ideas but his books are “shit”.
I read at least one Asimov book per year and always find myself fast forwading and skipping because nothing happens, literally no character or plot development happens. His Foundation books are as dull, monotonous and one-sided as a dry desert. Sure the books are old, but just comparing to his contemporary Tolkien we can see what great writing is about.
I’m lukewarm about psychohistory, as its not plausible (well, whatever is in scifi…). Imho, the ONLY great idea in this trilogy is the idea of mentalics, or psychic powers. Sadly, this concept doesn’t appear in the first Foundation book. Why Asimov didn’t use more of the mentalics beats me because its a great concept.
There you have it, its a psychohistorical fact that you will disagree…

Worth it! Watch if into ANY FORM of Sci-fi
As a background to the Apple TV series, this was insightful! I was very interested where the steroid came from and what happens in it. I was however surprised at how boring it is superficially. When you fully pay attention there is a life worth of knowledge in this book to be adapted as your current time line occurs.. when listening/reading keep in mind it was originally writing in 1945!!
Very happy I got to experience this. As not all things need to be a traditional from of exciting.. sometimes deeply intellectual and conceptual is however just that.

Enjoy the first drafts of futuristic Sci fi
Maybe the most enjoyable aspect of this history is the parallels you can draw between this futuristic world and the problem of our own. The role science played years before and play now... And what are the powers that drive society.
You'll not feel disappointed on the story plot twits and the explanations behind the main events, but some how the story behind some characters and events are... Not so convincing or rational... But is really entertaining either way.
Finally the reader makes a great work on characterization and events narration. You'll definitely enjoy this book

Sci-Fi Meisterwerk
Man möchte einfach weiter hören.
