Sebastian Orwell did the only thing a smart wizard could do when he stumbled upon the wounded Crown Prince: He healed him and dumped him in a tavern where he could continue not being Sebastian's problem. Unfortunately, the prince isn't content with being alive, and he hunts Sebastian down to thank him personally. Not only is Sebastian stuck with the prince's unwanted affections, but he's also confronted by growing evidence linking the assassination attempt to someone from his father's past.

Lord Orwell is a lot of things: thief, liar, drunk, and all-around horrible father, but Sebastian knows he's no murderer. In order to prove it, Sebastian has to keep the prince alive long enough to discover the truth - a task made considerably harder because the idiot prince prefers wooing Sebastian over securing his own survival. On top of everything, Sebastian needs to save the day without revealing his magical powers and the real reason he hides his appearance.

Sebastian had no intention of playing the hero, but whoever is stirring up shit in his country will pay for destroying his quiet life.

A family that drives you crazy

At first sights, I've never heard of a family that despised each other so strongly. Which is the very first impression I got while hearing the opening words of that book. As it turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong - which was what I thought at the very end. Which is beautiful, by the way (forgive me the overuse of 'which' please, I couldn't help it).

Sebastian is a real smartass. Also, he's awfully cute when feeling unseen. Same counts for Taron, with a big plus on the cute part. As a hearer, I learned to love every figure that fought on their side during that battle and to dislike the rest of them. I am not so sure about Lord Orwell, thought. He's always played one no one's behalf but his own.

I chose this book at the beginning because of the speaker's wonderful voice and his ability to pronounce just right. Before that, I felt captured by the story and the cover on equal parts.
To conclude, I can say that this book truly held its promise. Thank both of you, Sam Argent and Cornell Collins.

Both in the depiction of family relationships, and in the way romantic
love is portrayed, this is one of the cutest stories I've listened to.
It doesn't sacrifice plot for romance or unnecessary
drama, it doesn't make its main characters be the best at everything.
What it does is show bickering, easy camaraderie and a love of books. Sebastian is eternally grumpy, Taron is determined. Sebastian's siblings care deeply about each other. His parents love him. Taron's mother is absolutely awesome, so is Sebastian's sister Ophelia.
The bad guy could have used a biiiiit more depth, but paired and set against and with Sebastian's family, it worked.
To top it off, the narrator found a great balance between drama, romance, fantasy and setting, giving each character their own voice.

I really hope we'll see and hear more about this wonderful, strange family.

it is some what confusing to listen to, because neither the characters nor their surroundings gets a description.
And it's hard to grasp the stakes of a fight if you don't know what each character can actually do or how strong they are.

Never the less it's fun to listen to... even if you have to fill in some blanks by yourself.
