Über diesen Titel
A hero to some. A villain to many. The truth forever buried.
The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.
From the three-time New York Times best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan, Esrahaddon is the final novel in the Rise and Fall trilogy. This latest set of stories sits snugly between the Legends of the First Empire series and the Riyria books (Revelations and Chronicles). With this tale, Michael continues his tradition of unlikely heroes who must rise to the call when history knocks, demanding to be let in. This is the 19th full-length novel in a body of work that started in 2008 and spans four series.

The best book in this series.

The first means that it had to give answers to some questions we should be asking by now. Did it? Yes in about 10 to 20 hours. Now I don’t fear the long and the idea brought up are quite interesting; how do the champions of a system become infection that destroys it from the inside?
However it relies on the rulers completely fumbling the ball to a point where a near omniscient demigod could fix it. Maybe you should tell the people that there is an evil elf who is hellbent on killing humanity? The last book established that Suri formed the Censarium specifically to stop him. Instead they kinda forgot? What?
Speaking of throwing 2000 years of hard work away Mondule after getting an arms length to his goal stops and does barely anything for the next 1000 years.
So that part is pretty meh. What about the rest?
We get some development on the goblins as a faction. Great but unfortunately as of yet this is the only book that capitalises on this. We get some pretty big worldbuilding reveals that… will be completely irrelevant … in the sequel, … huh.
Everything that happens with Trilos in this book is great, if the last book was the one that elevated Turin this is the Trilos book and right when it’s all about to come together… the book ends. Oh, come on!
What about Ezra? The main character in this book. Sure he profits a lot from this book just to be somewhat relevant in Sequel. Come to think of it Trilos is not even in the sequel. Neither is Jared or all the other characters.
And don’t get me wrong, stories don’t have to go on forever but they should have a good conclusion for most of their story threads. This book kinda ends mid sentence with most of the characters not quiet at the end of their journey.
So, you pick up the sequel and find out that it plays 1.000 years in the future and all but three characters are long since dead and the rest are background characters or if you are Trilos only in a flashback.
It all feels really disappointing and disappointment is not the thing you want to feel after a 30 hour book.
This book desperately needs a sequel that isn’t Ryira because Ryira has very little to do with it. (This is essentially lore that gets explained in Ryira anyways because the series was written long before this book was ever planned).
And even if that book exists one day this is still quite a mixed bag.
The Thing about Prequels is that you can’t change the Sequel
