Über diesen Titel
Pain burned through my veins like wildfire, electrifying each nerve ending and searing through every thought I had ever had. I was sure this was how I would die, and I wished it would hurry up.—Charles Walsh.
Deep in the woods a darkness stirs and impossible, horrifying, creatures exist. Deputy Charles Walsh had always held a healthy level of skepticism. However, when he meets Eric Linnaeus, a man marked by the fae and trained to kill, he is forced to accept a new reality. Facing supernatural creatures and cursed objects, he discovers that everything is not as it seems. If he hopes to survive, he must learn from Linnaeus, yet he can’t help but wonder—is this man’s word to be trusted?
Book one in the dark fantasy horror series Eric Linnaeus.
©2020 Kikito Lynn (P)2023 Kikito LynnI'm not really a fan of Emily, she's probably the only character I found not quite enjoyable, probably because she seems erratic at times. I hated her intimate scene with Marcus, but that comes down to my personal taste (and I don't like him, though as a character he’s very interesting. As a person however I hate him though).
I quite like how the Fey read so differently in their ways to the humans. And how Kallah is so unhuman, because of her training, but every now and then her humanness shines through. Many books with fantastical races seem to forget to differentiate them from humans so I like that it was always clear who's who. Also some little details from the flashbacks or explanations come in as easter eggs later on. Like how Eric doesn’t sleep with a blanket and how Molly later on explains that the institute doesn’t let the kids have blankets. Overall, the plot is very thought through. Gives me great hope for follow up books!
The magic system isn't well explained but it serves the story very well and I wouldn't have enjoyed a long tanged about it. I'm a bit of a soft magic system enjoyer anyways.
The ending weas really nice (I'm very picky about endings). It left no plotlines open but build anticipation for the next book. I hope to read it soon.
Better than anticipated :)
