ONE GHOST. ONE DEMON. ONE HAUNTED MANOR.

The Ghost

What happens when someone accidentally summons a demon? They die and become a ghost.

I didn’t believe in Heaven or Hell. I thought the pain would stop, and I’d taste sweet oblivion. But I was wrong. Hell does exist. It’s not just a place, but a person too.

His name is Lynx.

Night after night, day after day, I try to escape and break free of the cage I’ve been damned into. I can’t hide from him, and he can’t outrun me. I’m trapped in the manor with the monster who killed me.

The Demon

Be careful who you steal from. They might just come for your soul.

They called me a sinner, then stuck a blade through my heart and cursed my soul to an eternity in flames, turning me into the demon they claimed I was.

For centuries, I suffered and screamed. Made other souls wish they were never born. It was an endless cycle I couldn’t break until one day, she called me forward. A little human who played with someone else’s toys.

I thought I could get rid of her, but I was wrong. I can’t escape her no matter what I do.

At least, I know one thing for certain. Sable looks pretty for a dead thing.

The blurb sounded promising, but the story sadly did not live up to my expectations. There were a few sweet moments that even made me teary-eyed, as well as some funny scenes, but overall the audiobook felt underwhelming.

Until about halfway through, very little actually happens. The plot moves slowly, there are few major events, and the lack of scenery changes makes the story feel repetitive and a bit boring. It does get slightly better in the second half, but never becomes as exciting as I had hoped, especially when it comes to the world-building and magic system, which felt shallow.

The characters also felt rather flat, and parts of their backstories were unbelievable. I did not feel much genuine chemistry between the main characters, and some of their banter came across as forced rather than charming. The female narrator’s voice also sounded annoying at times (but probably largely because of the FMC's inner monologue).

Overall, the book is not horrible, but it is not particularly memorable either. The idea had potential, but the execution felt bland and interchangeable with many other stories in the genre.

Disappointing
