I can recommend this book wholeheartedly to anyone looking to become a better person through self study and reflection. Not only does the book contain very valuable thoughts by history’s great minds, underpinned by well put-together stories, but it also has a lot of practical relevance applicable to everyday professional as well as private life. As somebody who experienced quite some success early on in his life, be it all part of a stringent plan or (which is much more likely) the result of hard work, but circumstantial to a substantial degree, the learnings contained in all three parts of this book resonated greatly with me. Everybody who aims to better themselves, not only as a professional, but also as a person, son, brother, boyfriend or girlfriend, should read or listen to and reflect on this work. The knowledge contained within is highly applicable, in that it helps circumnavigate a lot of the pitfalls that come with success and failure alike. Thank you for putting this together and helping us in trying to become better every day.

Great and insightful work into what holds back most of us

I have to say I really liked the idea he is trying to deliver. And he delivered it very well.

But why? Why adding a podcast as the last chapter of 1.5 hour at the end of the book?! If it was not there it would make the book a bit lightweight which I prefer. Makes the message more concise and direct.

At the end, still recommending the book, very helpful at any stage of your career or point of life.

loved it. the book had vivid examples and allowed the listen to really follow and identity with the topics of the book.

my favourite quote in the book from Bismarck:  'Fools learn from experience. I prefer to learn from the experience of others.'

In essence this quote is the cornerstone of this great book.

I listened to it once at ordinary speed and then a second time with an increased reading pace.

Really enjoyed listening to the audiobook that's narrated by Ryan Holiday himself, felt more like a personal conversation rather than just another book - also enjoyed the conversation with Tim Ferriss at the end. Good stuff.

... If you want to increase the value of the book further read Mastery and the 48 laws of power by Robert Greene and the subtle are of not giving a fuck by Mark Manson first. Ryan Holiday also cites Greene in his book and Greene is also on the reading list of Ryan, so don't miss that out. Great book. Will read again in a few months.
