I loved the narration style, the story and the characters. Due to the fact that everything is driven by Dexter‘s perception I find it more enjoyable than the TV show even. Truly wonderful. I look forward to reading the next book.

Coming from the TV show, wanting to listen to the Source material, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how well the book is. Though there are certain elements in it and certain lines that at this day and age may seem controversial, I overlooked those for the simple enjoyment of the Story.
The ending seemed to be most certainly far more fitting, than what the first season of the show had taken as an approach, giving the listeners or readers the want of finding out how things will go on. I would definitely recommend listening to Darkly Dreaming Dexter, but I must warn, if you are unable to handle things like sexism and or a rather blood centered narrative, perhaps try listening to something else. But if you are able to overlook these things in night 20 year old Media and just listen to an audiobook for its story, definitely consider listening to Darkly Dreaming Dexter. I am now listening to the second book, and hope it to be just as good as this one.

Ich liebe dieses Buch. Jeff Lindsey hat einen wunderbar zynischen und düsteren Schreibstil, der Dexters Stimme leben einhaucht. Dieses erste Buch war auch die Blaupause für die erste Staffel der Serie und der einzige Grund, warum man dieses Buch als Fan der TV-Serie nicht mögen könnte, ist, dass einige Nebenfiguren hier doch etwas zu kurz kommen. Von hier an trennen sich dann aber auch die Wege von Buch und Serie und beide spielen in ihrem eigenen kleinen Dexterverse.

Jeff Lindsey liest das Buch selbst vor und macht einen perfekten Job dabei. Es ist erstaunlich, wie nah seine Stimme an die von Michael C. Hall kommt, der Dexter in der Serie spielt.

I couldnt stomach the series but found the story interesting. The book is less brutal, but not much less, honestly.
Funny and interesting main character, although his above all attitude conflicts with the problem he's getting into, so he becomes less and less believable. As believable a sociopath can ever be to a normal brain, I mean.
Obvious, flat ending.
The reader is very good.
