From the Demon Accords Universe: Meet Katrina Westing. One of Tatiana Demidova's fixers, deadly fighter, borderline psycho. She can make personnel problems literally disappear. Turned at age 12, trapped in a child's body for 170 years, rescued from personal hell by Chris Gordon. This is her story.

I'm not trying to be mean, I swear, and I do think Lily Ganser is probably a really good narrator in a vacuum. However it is a huge pet peeve of mine, when a narrator joins in on an ongoing series and changes established pronounciations and voices very noticeably.

In a trilogy it wouldn't be so bad, but when you're the only other narrating voice, coming in on the 25th book of a series, it comes of as mighty self absorbed to just disregard the established pronounciations of things and intonation of certain characters voices and choose to just pronounce names, words and voices your own way. Keeping it consistent with the greater narrative/main narrator's pronounciations, especially since the latter half of the book is a retelling of events from the other books, feels like it should be a minimum entry requirement in my mind, which she failed to meet here.

Beyond that there's a very apparent skill gap in terms of voice/accent variety, especially the male ones (why does Chris sound like he's slow witted? It feels like a "dumb guy" voice you'd give to a character in a joke), compared to the previous superb variety from James P. Cronin we've grown so accustomed to across the other 24 books in the series.

And while I admit, that I/we have been spoiled on that front, I just can't help but think, that he might've delivered a more satisfying reading of this book, even though it is written in and from Katrina's female voice and perspective.

Great Book, Lackluster Performance
