The murder of a media moghul in his country mansion appears to be the result of him disturbing a gang of would-be thieves. The robbers are swiftly caught, but when they are unexpectedly moved to a different prison they escape.

Back in Edinburgh a young solicitor reveals to the press that one of the subjects had left a letter with her some time before the break-in which proves his innocence. Wow. Not only perfectly plotted but wonderfully narrated, this political intrigue has it all - gritty characters, gripping plot and an angry energy reflecting the time and place. Scotland in the 1990s and the Conservative Party is clinging to power through behind the scenes intrigue and power games. A billionaire newspaper magnate is brutally murdered and 4 common thieves are being framed for it. The conspiracy goes to the highest level, leaving everyone- even the local police - seemingly powerless. But then, undercover journalist Jack parlabane gets involved and there is hope in a hopeless situation.
The storytelling is superb and we get into the heads of all the major characters: we know what they did and their fears and motivations . Nevertheless, the plots tightens and suspense keeps rising to nailbiting levels as you wonder how the “goodies” can possibly escape the fiendish conspiracy set for them.
Amazing story and very satisfying ending with all ends nicely tied up. I am on the hunt for more books by this author and can highly recommend this!
