A funny, small-town lesbian romance about clashing cultures and daring to dream big.
LA-based English indie filmmaker Alex Levitin reluctantly takes a job in New Zealand to save the "worst movie ever", Shezan: Mistress of the Forest. Things might go easier for her if she didn't almost run over the standoffish, beautiful local cop on her first day in town. And it'd really help if her film set wasn't being mysteriously sabotaged.
When Ika Whenu's Senior Constable Sam Keegan isn't trying to stamp out a motorcycle gang drug problem afflicting her town, she's publicly slamming everything about the exploitative film, Shezan, and the Hollywood blow-ins making it. That includes its nerdy, cute director, Alex, who has woeful driving skills to go with her smart mouth.
Against the stunning scenery and chaotic film-set backdrop, attraction flares between the two warring women as they're forced to work together to find the set saboteur.

I especially liked the appearance of characters from former books (while this novel absolutely works on its own, the full pleasure comes with listening to „Breaking Character“ first. A small nod to „The Brutal Truth“ is also included)
The speaker I’ve found a little hard to get used to, the first hour sounds a bit wooden and stiff but thankfully she gets into the novel after a while and I’ve started to enjoy her interpretation of the characters at that point.

Das Lee Winter Strickmuster funktioniert hier irgendwie nicht, weil die Charaktere sehr blass und unglaubwürdig sind. Die Hauptcharaktere haben für mich keine Chemie, finde die sogar etwas erzwungen. Die Geschichte selber ist leicht vorhersehbar, liegt vielleicht daran, dass wenn man 4 Geschichten nach dem selben System schreibt, die Ideen ausgehen. Die Sprecherin ist bemüht und es wäre auch alles okay, wenn es nicht der Nachfolger von "breaking character" wäre, aus dem man die Charaktere schon kennt und die dort anders vertont wurden. Durch die neue Leserin werden komplett neue Personen erstellt, die halt nicht passen. Ne Kleinigkeit, die aber stört.
