    Rose Leslie (Games of Thrones) is THE perfect voice for Carmilla: melancholic and timeless. David Tennant (Doctor Who) and all the ensemble with the scenification are just brilliant. I know all about Carmilla and Le Fanu and this is absolutely my favorite. Unfortunately this is the only Audiobook I could find with Rose Leslie and Phoebe Fox.

    Absolutely lovely little production if you can get past the totally disgusting mouth noises of the man in the very beginning. David Tennant is in this???!!!

    Carmilla - the oldest British Vampire Novel - now available as a dramatic audiobook by a fantastic cast.
    They do not only the book justice, but keeps the listener entertained in a true classic. Who wouldn't want to figure out the mystery behind Carmilla, exploring old castles with the two young women or just be entertained by this Gothic tale?

    Just doing a favour for a mysterious lady, a few months taking care of her young daughter, until mother and daughter can be reunited, and your own daughter will gaining a companion. But what will be, when strange things occur? Dreams, that can be frightening, but also arousing - how can a young woman disappear from a locked room, without being seen? And why will no letters be send to Carmilla? (Okay, this question didn't occur...still it could have been asked...)

    I've enjoyed it quite a lot, and it'll probably be not the last time, that I'm listening to this version of Carmilla^^

    Therefore should you be a fan of Gothic Novels, give it a chance :)

    Steamy and Creepy and I enjoyed it a lot. it is a play not just a read book.

    I liked the roles and the readers. The story was intetesting for a Vampire story.

    The book itself is beyond description and should be way more well-known. I was hesitant to read this version but the cast convinced me - and I did not regret it. What a fantastic adaptation indeed!

    I was skeptical, because I usually don't like audio plays. And my review might be stained by that.

    But this audio drama is very good narrated. Laura is telling her recollection of her weeks with the beautiful Carmilla.

    The drama has three chapters, I believe and it's about two and a half hours long. I listened to it between other books.

    The cast creates a vision of the scenes like you're standing right next to the conversation. And makes the listener fear for Laura and Carmilla several times. Great job!

    Carmilla is one of the first vampire novels at all and quite interesting, especially under this circumstance. There are some lenghts but an exciting end. I had difficulty distinguishing the speakers especially Carmilla and Laura but I could still follow the story. I do like it.

    Carmilla war immer mein liebster Vampirklassiker. Eigentlich mochte ich sonst auch kaum einen, außer Bram Stokers "Dracula". Vielen unbekannt nimmt Stoker in "Dracula" sogar Bezug auf "Carmilla" und stellt die durch Carmilla durcheinander geratene patriarchale Weltordnung wieder her. Das erst nach Stokers Tod veröffentlichte erste Kapitel von "Dracula" bezieht sogar ganz explizit Carmillas Grab ein und spielt in der Steiermark. Und wie wir wissen: Am Ende von "Dracula" sind alle bösen VampirInnen beseitigt, die Männer triumphieren und Wissenschaft siegt über Gefühl.

    Carmilla bietet genau das Gegenteil.

    (SPOILERALARM) Im Dunkeln tappende Generäle, die in abgelegenen Burgen wohnen, kluge Frauen, die genau wissen, wie sie ans Ziel kommen und sehr viel schwülstige Liebe. Da diese Novelle schon knapp 150 Jahre alt ist, wird die Liebesbeziehung zwischen den beiden Protagonistinnen nicht explizit genannt, aber... obwohl. Doch. Wer das nicht checkt, dass die beiden was miteinander haben, dem ist nicht zu helfen.

    Dank der Neuvertonung als Hörspiel schlackern einem da schon manchmal die Ohren. Es ist ein Heidenspaß, der geschwollenen englischen Sprache des viktorianischen Englands zu lauschen, die in verworrenen Bildern ein orgiastisches Spiel zwischen beiden Frauen schildert. Die Sprecher bringen nicht nur Feuer in die Geschichte, sondern sehr, sehr viel Spaß und Humor. Trottelige alte Männer versus junge Vampirlesben. Ich habe meine Zeit schon weniger spannend verbringen müssen.
