Über diesen Titel

Sammy Raphael is a crappy witch, and on top of that, he can't seem to get a boyfriend. Where other supernaturals can bring down lightning and manifest wealth, Sammy can paint. Granted, the "prophetic" paintings he creates at night always come true, but they never predict anything important. Sammy feels like a total loser with a worthless ability.

One night he paints a gorgeous guy who turns out to be his secret crush, the human Ryder, but Ryder's changed so much he's almost unrecognizably beautiful. Then Sammy paints an angel who turns out to be a witch. But is that witch also a devil - a devil who can bring down Sammy's whole community and everyone he loves? And why the hell does Ryder keep changing? Aloysius, the black cat familiar, always backs a winner. So why is he backing Sammy?

Contains mature themes.

The author obviously has a strong opinion on anything European, without ever having done proper research. I thought I liked the series, as the first book was okay, but as this part progressed it was harder and harder to keep listening. At least the voice actor did a good Job, I think.

Too many clichés

I found the intrique in the first book more enganging (maybe personal preference). The storytelling almost seemed like the style was changed for less sophisticated with the switch of main characters? Still enjoyable and I will listen to the third book for sure but also:

my biggest issue is the narrator, the slightly snooty exaggerated nasally tone he gave the two main characters from/in the first book I got used to even though I don't like that either, but the weird accent (runnen not running, penten not painting and he says that a whole lot, chengen not changing etc.) he gave Sammy. Why? It was so annoying. I don't remember having heard anything in either book describing this for Sammy nor that Ryder has a voice like he is chewing on a mouthful of tissue.
Also the cat sounds...if you can't really do them, using real cat sounds instead might have been better....

and also I may be a bit sensitive, because such things annoy me, but "I don't know what they do in your country, but here is not Czech and we blabla" (paraphrased) as a reprimand against someone, shouldn't be said by the main characters uncontested like it's ok. Sounds really really bad.

liked the first book better

Especially without ever adressing it as a serious issue that happened? Not great. In fact, the characters that repeatedly got raped weren't mentioned again after the villains defeat, almost as if the author doesn't even care about them past them being there to suffer and show that the villain is actually BadTM

Using rape to push your plot...
