A touching and "unputdownable" book! It is not only the story that makes this book so fantastic but also the language, its rhythm and finally the reader. Besides, I was surprised to find that book categorised as a thriller as I felt that the crimes presented just belonged to the main character's life story. Not that it was not thrilling, it definitely was, but to me it was rather a melancholic, witty portrait of a certain part of US American society.

Blacktop Wasteland literally washed me away. It starts with a seemingly traditional plot, but its characters are actually on their own personal road to misery, destruction or hell from the first page onwards. Yet, while being on that slope, the thriller's main character, Beauregard »Bug« Montage seems to be in control, almost all the time. And again, while seeming to be in control, the control that his past and his present exert on him is gruesome ...

Blacktop Wasteland abounds of personal dilemmas. The authentic casualness and inevitability it depicts about brutality and killing are highly disturbing ... at least to the European reader.

And yet again from another angle: Blacktop Wasteland is a fine thriller, full of suspense, twists and action, starting slow, drawing you in and - yes - washing you away as a whole. Adam Lazarre-White as reader breathes life into this disastrous, exciting torrent in a way that can hardly be topped.

Mir hat die Geschichte gut gefallen, der Sprecher erst recht.
Aber insgesamt wurde es mir einfach zu brutal.
Und diese Brutalität passt auch nicht so ganz zu dem wohlmeinenden Vater und Ehemann.
Deshalb werde ich kein weiteres Buch des Autors hören/lesen.
