The story would have been okay. But Lucy shows no common sense, her parenting is some sort of mix of hypocritical role play and codependent mothering, expecting her son to act like an adult where she doesn't. She cares little about him being out alone, when on the other hand she is overly scared of a dark stranger looming over them.
As a teacher she lacks connection and empathy, too. If she can't talk about a bad experience, she is the helpless, shouting damsel in distress abusing her power to reprimand young people who have a right to know what is going on. Very disrespectful and psychologically the worst move since it can lead to trauma too.
Complete failure as a mother, a psychologist, a teacher and a good protagonist.
What a waste, given the good story and the brilliant narrating.
