Module 1 turns the focus onto something that’s often forgotten when a young person is struggling — you. Before you can support your child effectively, you need space to understand your own emotions, reactions, and the pressure you’re carrying.

In this module, I guide you through the emotional impact of parenting a child with mental health difficulties. We look at why feelings like worry, frustration, guilt, or exhaustion are completely normal, and why they show up so strongly during challenging times.

You’ll learn how to recognise and validate your own emotions without judgment, what self-compassion looks like in real life (not the fluffy version), and practical ways to steady yourself when everything feels too much. We also explore what resilience truly means — not being endlessly strong, but finding ways to keep going, adapting, and grounding yourself even on the hardest days.

By the end of this module, you’ll have a clearer understanding of your emotional landscape and a gentler way of speaking to yourself as you support your child. This session lays the foundation for everything that follows.
