Unity Voices is a podcast from Youth Unity CIC — a space for honest, unfiltered conversations about the things that shape our lives and our communities.

From young people and teachers to community leaders, professionals and the occasional high‑profile guest, we bring a wide range of voices to the same table: real talk on confidence, wellbeing, opportunity, identity and the issues that matter most. No lectures and no spin — just people sharing their stories, their struggles and what they've learned along the way.

At its heart, Unity Voices is about giving people a platform to be heard, building confidence through conversation, and turning lived experience into something powerful. Produced by Youth Unity CIC and recorded in our Unity Hub, the show is part of our wider commitment to empowering young people and strengthening communities through media, mentoring and creative opportunity.

  • Behind Supacell: From Thamesmead to Netflix — with Koby Adom & Akwasi Poku
    Jun 15 2026

In this episode of Unity Voices, we sit down with Koby Adom and Akwasi Poku, members of the production team behind the hit Netflix series Supacell — much of which was filmed in and around Thamesmead.

We talk about their personal journeys into the film and television industry: growing up, the challenges they faced, and the trials and tribulations that have shaped their careers. Koby, who grew up in Thamesmead, speaks about his connection to the area and why it matters to see local stories and communities represented on screen.

Both share honest, practical advice for young people hoping to build careers in film, TV and the wider creative industries — shining a light on the many pathways that are often overlooked, from production and directing to writing, technical and behind‑the‑scenes roles.

It's an inspiring conversation about ambition, identity and resilience — and proof of how far your story can take you.

About the show: Supacell is a Netflix series created by Rapman, following five ordinary South Londoners who suddenly develop extraordinary powers.

This interview forms part of Youth Unity CIC's ongoing commitment to creating opportunities for young people through media, arts, education and community engagement.
