Good morning. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. That dusting of snow overnight left a sneaky parting gift. Watch for black ice on untreated roads this morning, especially in the Capital Region and those interior valleys. In the next 24 hours. It's a tale of two cities with the fog this morning. Down in New York City, you're starting at 35 degrees under gray skies. The fog burns off by 9 A.M., giving way to partial sunshine and a high near 47 degrees. Head north to the Capital Region and you'll find 31 degrees to start. That fog clears by mid-morning. Albany joins the city at 47 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Western New York is dealing with the thickest soup. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect for the Niagara area until 11 A.M. Once that lifts. Rochester and Buffalo climb to 48 degrees with some sun. Central New York sits at 34 degrees early, reaching 44 degrees this afternoon. Tonight, skies stay mostly cloudy. Lows drop to 29 degrees upstate, while the city holds warmer near 40 degrees. You might see patchy fog redevelop, with a few sprinkles creeping into the metro by dawn. Thursday is when things turn wet. A low-pressure system spreads rain across the entire state. New York City sees a steady rain with a high of 44 degrees. The Capital Region could start with a brief wintry mix before changing to rain. Western and Central New York see rain developing by late morning. Plan on a soggy Thursday night statewide, with rainfall totals generally between a half-inch and three-quarters of an inch. Looking ahead, the weekend brings a dramatic shift. Saturday temperatures surge into the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. That's 29 degrees to 29 degrees above normal for early March. Showers and even a few thunderstorms are possible Saturday as a cold front swings through. Sunday clears out with highs still in the upper 50s. Monday and Tuesday look spectacular, with sunshine and highs in the low to mid 60s. The full moon rises tonight at sunset. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. And the spring equinox is just two weeks away. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
