Good morning. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly. That gray ceiling overhead? It's the leading edge of a warm front pushing north from the Mid-Atlantic. Cold air from a departing high pressure system is getting overrun by moisture streaming up the coast. The result. A messy wintry mix spreading across New York today. In the next 24 hours. Right now we're sitting at 32 degrees under overcast skies. That overnight low dipped to 27 degrees. But here's the twist — temperatures will actually rise as precipitation arrives. Down in the New York City metro, snow begins around 9 A.M. It quickly mixes with and changes to rain. Highs reach 41 degrees. Tonight stays damp with rain continuing until about 4 A.M. Could pick up a half to three-quarters of an inch. Head north to the Capital Region and it's a trickier situation. Snow starts around 11 A.M. Then it mixes with sleet and freezing rain by evening. Highs only reach 36 degrees. Feels like 30 degrees out there this morning. Winter Weather Advisories are posted. Western New York sees rain showers developing after 11 A.M. Highs near 38 degrees. The Southern Tier faces freezing rain through midday. Roads could be slick. Central New York follows a similar pattern. Snow showers by late morning transitioning to a rain-snow mix. High of 36 degrees. Wednesday brings a brief reprieve. Partly sunny skies and highs pushing into the upper 40s statewide. Here's your heads-up for the week ahead. A wet pattern settles in Thursday through the weekend. Rain returns Thursday and Friday. Then. Springlike warmth arrives. Saturday could hit the mid-60s. Sunday and Monday stay mild with highs in the 60s for many areas. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight each day now. The spring equinox is just two weeks away.
