Series 2, Episode 1 - “We are equipped to survive. We are only interested in survival. Anything else is of no importance.
Welcome back, faithful friends, to a brand new series of Hit or Miss: Doctor Who. Things are getting decidedly chilly as we head to Snowcap Base in the South Pole — and into our first examination of the cold, brutal logic of the chilling Cybermen. D.K. is your host, guiding our podcast party through the debut appearance of the menacing cyborgs in a hugely important story that also just happens to feature the first ever regeneration. Joining D.K is regular co-host Michael Wilson. We’re also delighted to welcome two first-time guests with plenty of experience of their own — Stephen and Lynn. Before the main review, D.K. lightly interrogates our guests on introductions to the Whoniverse, favourite stories and personal best Cyberman appearances. Then it’s the return of the Hit or Miss segment. Our intrepid crew then jumps into the main review, navigating those all-important firsts, examining the animated fourth episode, critiquing Hartnell’s final regular performance, and rating the companions and guest cast. They discuss whether the Cybermen make a strong first impression, the pacing and limitations of 60s television, Hartnell’s unfortunate absence from Episode Three, and a whole lot more than you can shake a Z-bomb at. As always, we wrap up with audience thoughts, our own conclusions, and final scores. So grab your radiation rods, keep your eyes on the skies as you hit play — and for goodness’ sake, keep warm. Yes… got to keep warm.
