A Scottish novelist and academic, John Innes Mackintosh Stewart, who published crime fiction under his pseudonym Michael Innes, was well-known for his detective creation DI John Appleby. This BBC Radio collection brings together two exciting adventures dramatised with a full-cast for radio and starring John Hurt and Michael MacKenzie.

Appleby's End follows DI Appleby's as he uncovers a series of incidents that echo the melodramatic tales of a long-dead Victorian writer.

Lament for a Maker sees Appleby delving into the eerie world of a remote Scottish castle to investigate the mysterious death of the mad laird, Ranald Guthrie, who fell from his tower.

These adaptations, rich with atmosphere and intrigue, bring to life Innes's masterful blend of intellectual puzzles and gothic suspense.
