What a book! There are tons of little stories of conflict, foreshadowing and tragedy. From the central conflict of our two big figures of Fulgrim and Perturabo to the small stories of poor mutated Imperial Fist suffering under the degenerate experiments of Fabius Byle. There's never a dull moment in this book and it keeps you interested in characters it portrays and I'd say you don't need much previous knowledge of them. It gives alot of backstory to the main "protagonists" of Storm of Iron so I recommend it before that book.
