Über diesen Titel

There's a saying that people don't leave companies, they leave managers. Management is a key part of any organization, yet the discipline is often self-taught and unstructured. Getting to the good solutions of complex management challenges can make the difference between fulfillment and frustration for teams, and, ultimately, the success or failure of companies.

Will Larson's An Elegant Puzzle orients around the particular challenges of engineering management - from sizing teams to technical debt to succession planning - and provides a path to the good solutions. Drawing from his experience at Digg, Uber, and Stripe, Will Larson has developed a thoughtful approach to engineering management that leaders of all levels at companies of all sizes can apply. An Elegant Puzzle balances structured principles and human-centric thinking to help any leader create more effective and rewarding organizations for engineers to thrive in.

This book is just amazing. There's literally no water in it. The author describes common complex issues and step-by-step guides on how to approach them. Extremely useful for anyone involved in leading engineering teams. I've bought a few hardcover copies to spread in my network.

A must-read for engineering and product managers

I have now listened to this book at least twice. Sone sections are very condensed and it takes some time to understand. Since it's a cookbook there is only a little story to explain the thinking but that's not always a problem. Great book - I also got the printed edition.

A real cookbook for engineering managers.

The book is a nice guide with valuable insight and a thorough structure. It might not be optimally suited to be consumed in audio form, though it is not worthless.

The speaker though is, frankly, horrible. Emphasis and intonation is totally off more often than not. Statements sound like questions, emphasis is on the most irrelevant word and quite a few words are mispronounced. Listening is unnecessarily hard and no fun just for this fact, unfortunately.

I'm going to read it on paper again.
