Inhaltsangabe

This story was inspired by my favorite Christmas movie, “It’s A Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart. Whilst my story does not follow that plot, I wanted to write a tale about an angel who helps Elizabeth Bennet one bleak Christmas. Here is the blurb for “An Angel In Her Pocket.”

Life had been hard for Elizabeth Bennet in the months since she refused Mr. Darcy’s proposal at Kent. Lydia eloped with Mr. Wickham, and her father died shortly thereafter. Mr. Collins took possession of Longbourn, forcing her family to live apart to survive. She and Jane left to live in London with the Gardiners, and Elizabeth’s hope of finding employment there was fading quickly as Christmas approached.

Grace Angelini is on a mission from St. Peter to right a wrong. For her plan to work, Fitzwilliam Darcy has to overcome his pride and propose to Elizabeth Bennet a second time, although neither is a part of the other’s circle. Undeterred, Grace does her best to unite the couple by securing a position for Elizabeth as Darcy’s goddaughter’s governess.

Will Grace’s help prove to be a blessing or a curse when Elizabeth’s position is put in peril through no fault of her own?

An angel in her pocket

Elizabeth's life has changed dramatically. After she refused Darcy's offer in Kent, her sister Lydia eloped with Wickham and her father soon afterwards died. She, her mother and sisters were thrown out of Longbourn, leaving her and Jane with the necessity to earn their own life and live with the Gardiners. Elizabeth desperately searches for employment when she encounters Grace Angelini. Grace is on an angelic mission with the aim to bring Darcy and Elizabeth together before Christmas. Thus with her heavenly guidance they are, unbeknownst from that, thrown in each other's company again because Elizabeth starts working as governess for Darcy's beloved goddaughter. Does Darcy love Elizabeth enough that he can overcome is pride and proposes a second time? Or will Elizabeth's even more reduced circumstances make it impossible? And what about Elizabeth's feelings? Does she still hate Darcy?

The book by the author Brenda Webb is very well written and the audiobook is quick to listen to. The story is a sweet one and set around Christmas time. The angel Grace Angelini is on an angelic mission to finally bring together Darcy and Elizabeth after Elizabeth's circumstances have greatly worsened and she finally discovers that she loves Darcy. The angelic aim is to make Darcy overcome his pride to propose a second time and with this save Elizabeth's heart and her family.

I very much like the angel Grace and her heavenly mission. Her talks with her angel friend Charity are rather funny because Grace wants to achieve her mission in her own way, means she wants to encounter Elizabeth in person which is not to the liking of St Peter. But fortunately St Peter is occupied most of the time and Grace has her way. I very much like that she gives Elizabeth hope and that she encourages Elizabeth to continue to pray and to believe that her prayers will come true.

I also very much like that Darcy is still in love and that his love is not wavering, regardless of Elizabeth's circumstances. I also like that he shows so much love for his goddaughter. I'm pleased by the image of Darcy showing so much love for people in his life ❤️. That suits him very well, definitely better than the image of the haughty gentleman who is not interested in anyone else's company and who deems everyone beneath him.

Elizabeth on her part seems not as steadfast as Darcy. She is secretly very much in love with him but she thinks he can't be interested in her because she is now more unsuitable than ever. This means she on the one hand seeks his nearness but on the other hand tries to avoid him to protect her heart. I can understand her completely but I'm nevertheless glad about Grace's interference because otherwise Elizabeth would probably have been successful in avoiding Darcy completely.

There are also some new villains in the story (for Wickham is already cared for 😉), thus we don't have only Elizabeth's and Darcy's internal struggles but there is also an intrusion from outside that keeps the story intriguing. But naturally it is dealt with the villain in an appropriate way 😉.

The narrator Katherine Anderson was very pleasant. I liked listening to her performance very much. She has done a great job in voicing the characters in different ways and narrating the story in a way to capture me. I'm looking forward to listen to more of her narrations.

If you like Darcy and Elizabeth being secretly in love with the other and brought together by a heavenly mission, you should definitely listen to this audiobook.

I highly recommend it.

I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
