Über diesen Titel

Two New York Times best-selling authors unveil new research showing what meditation can really do for the brain. In the last 20 years, meditation and mindfulness have gone from being kind of cool to becoming an omnipresent Band-Aid for fixing everything from your weight to your relationship to your achievement level. Unveiling here the kind of cutting-edge research that has made them giants in their fields, Daniel Goleman and Richard J Davidson show us the truth about what meditation can really do for us, as well as exactly how to get the most out of it. Sweeping away common misconceptions and neuromythology to open listeners' eyes to the ways data has been distorted to sell mind-training methods, the authors demonstrate that beyond the pleasant states mental exercises can produce, the real payoffs are the lasting personality traits that can result. But short daily doses will not get us to the highest level of lasting positive change - even if we continue for years - without specific additions. More than sheer hours, we need smart practice, including crucial ingredients such as targeted feedback from a master teacher and a more spacious, less attached view of the self, all of which are missing in widespread versions of mind training. The authors also reveal the latest data from Davidson's own lab that point to a new methodology for developing a broader array of mind-training methods with larger implications for how we can derive the greatest benefits from the practice. Exciting, compelling, and grounded in new research, this is one of those rare books that has the power to change us at the deepest level.

Life changing information on what the mind ist capable of when we venture onto that journey into meditation. Dan Goleman as one of the pioneers of bringing eastern practice together with western science speaks passionately about what that could mean for individuals, society and last but not least the survival of our species.

Thank you Dan, Richi, Jon, Yongey Mingur, the Dalai Lama, the Yogi brought up for examination and everyone else involved in this studies.

"The Joy of Living" was my introduction into meditation and It was the only book in my entire life that really helped me change my life. Equanimity and compassion transform my life and the one of my surroundings for the better. It isn't possible to describe it in words how positive my life got because of this.

Your work is unmeasurably important for this world as it nowadays is.

keep it up guys!

World changing

This contains too many stories about the author's experiences in the 1970s, Harvard, trips to India... there is interesting info in there, and they cite great scientific studies. But the babble is just too much. Just tell me about some studies, and about the benefits of meditating. I'm a guy with ADD in my 20s, NOT an experienced meditator - which you should be if you listen to this.

get to the point, dude

Yet another briliant piece from Daniel Goleman. I love that he goes into the details of the studies to show which were done correctly and which not. I think after this book no one can doubt the effect of meditation on the brain. The narator and author is excelent as always. He does a very good job of transmitting his own excitement and passion about the subject. Will definitely go to a meditation retreat after reading this.

An inspiration to improve my practice

Great summary of the current research about the effects of meditation on the mind! Most of the findings do not suprise me though, they reflect perfectly my inner experience about meditation. This makes the hole topic actually even more fascinating.

Fascinating!

I am convinced that one day I will look back at my life and consider Golemans book among those that have made the biggest impact on my life for the better.
In a way, this masterpiece of scientific journalism goes right to the core of our existence, the state of mind in which we experience presence, being and connection with others in the form of empathy.
The journey through which he takes the listener is adventurous, surprising and most importantly in a way and pace that allows one to understand the complex topic at hand, feel its importance and leave with an idea of what to do to implement some of the suggestions made into ones own life.
Besides a clear perspective and astonishing inside knowldege, Goleman is blessed with a golden voice. Whoever thought scientists are boring speakers is definetely disproved.

In a nutshell: The book for anyone interested in meditation and what we know about it, anyone strugling in life and trying to make a positive transition into more stability and connectedness.
