well I don't say this very often, but I actually liked the TV series better than the book. somehow the book is just a little bit too fast it doesn't develop the characters as nicely.

This must definitely be one of the best books I have read in the past five years. Richard Morgan managed to create a world which is so dense and so fascinating that one can’t help but be dazzled and terrified at the same time by his dystopian future. It is interesting to speculate where he got his inspiration from. No doubt from modern day political, economic, military, social and philosophical problems. Easy to read/to listen to. An absolute page turner! It is good that he has written to more books. Also to be recommended.

this book is a classic noir crime story with a grumpy lone wolf as her protagonist with a lot of cool cyberpunk ideas

This audiobook is exceptional, mostly due to the captivating story and the excellent narrator. Whoever likes Cyberpunk and Sci-Fi is going to love this.

Die Geschichte zu Altered Carbon ist ausgezeichnet. Die inneren Konflikte der Personen (und AI) könnten aber besser ausgeführt werden, aber insgesamt war die Geschichte so spannend das ich das Buch sehr gut über Stunden hören konnte. Tatsächlich waren die Personen in der Netflix Serie besser dargestellt.
Die Produktion ganz übel ist. Unnötige Pausen nach Takes. Die Tonqualität ist schwankend. Es hört sich so an, als ob es überhaupt keine Postproduktion gegeben hat.
Das Problem mit dem Sprecher ist das er Frauenstimmen so gar nicht darstellen kann. Er hätte einfach mit seiner normalen Stimme sprechen sollen.

A real science fiction book. Not fantasy like Star Trek.
Everything is based in a believable reality.
The characters are deep, intense and flawed.
The story is complex and confusing in a good way.

I'm going to listen to it again.

Very well written. Like Shadowrun or Cyberpunk but different.

There should have been longer pauses of silence between scenes. These just are way too short. Sometimes it takes you half a sentence to realize, that you are now in a completely different scene.

Story good, performance good, production meh

I wanted to read/hear the books after watching the netflix show. I love it as much as I enjoyed the show but the story sometimes jumps to a side story (a dream, flashback, etc.) so abruptly that you don’t actually realize it for a couple of seconds and it really throws you off the story cause you sit there wondering „wait whats happening?!“. Overall still recommend!

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

One star removed for replacing the (very good) reader from the first two books. This is very annoying in a trilogy.
One star removed for the editor due to the wrong pronunciation of the main characters last name (especially considering that this has been a point made repeatedly in Altered Carbon).
Two stars removed for bad audio design. The publishers try to use effects to spice up this production was a huge misfire for me. The introduction almost hurt to listen to.

Very good story but bad execution. Probably will not even finish this.
Shame, the first two audio books were very good.

Mediocre story telling that reeks of testosterone-laden grunt-fantasies.
The narrator does as well as he can do with the text he's given - credit to him - but he can't save the content from turning a potentially grand premise into a primitive, two-dimensional blurb.

Sadly. Because the premise of the story is fascinating.

I am now hoping that someone who is better at storytelling will work on the basic idea of the book.
