The story itself was fine, but it was a bit frustrating that it was a completely different political situation and culture for the first 65%. That said, it was nice that the universe expanded quite a bit, with the political intrigue becoming that much more intense. As for the love story, it was satisfying but also infuriating. Kyle is a self-absorbed tool, and it's really hard to believe an ambassador could be this culturally insensitive and so emotionally unaware, but I guess it's an elected position, which somehow makes that a bit more believable since he wasn't selected on his competencies for intercultural communication? I personally would have liked him to confess his learnings more directly to the Alessandra, but he does somewhat grovel and has a decent redemption arc. He at least mentally acknowledged what an idiot he was. Alessandra was such a realistic and relatable heroine. She dealt with the crazy like a champ, even if she also sometimes returned it with her crazy. In the end, I was happy for them.

worth a second listen, frustrating yet hilarious. Action and adventure. Interesting character developments. Looking forward to hearing the other human alien adventures.

as good as the first book was, this is utter garbage.
characters are unlikable and behave like idiots.
where one good conversation about different cultures could clear up everything, they dont do that so we have drama and the story can happen.

main female character is a unlikable cow.
main male character is just an idiot.

only good thing about this book is, that for about the last 3 hours they meet with the people from the first book and give you a glance of how life for them. but even that is just on the side.
