A Horus Heresy Novel

Censured at the Council of Nikea for his flagrant use of sorcery, Magnus the Red and his Legion retreat to their homeworld to continue their use of the arcane arts in secret.

Listen to it because

One of the most tragic tales of the entire Horus Heresy unfolds as the Thousand Sons are brought low by their relentless quest for knowledge. Magnus is sure that he knows better than the Emperor – but isn't that what caused Horus to fall as well?

The story

Censured at the Council of Nikea for his flagrant use of sorcery, Magnus the Red and his Thousand Sons Legion retreat to their homeworld of Prospero to continue their use of the arcane arts in secret. When the ill-fated primarch foresees the treachery of Warmaster Horus and warns the Emperor with the very powers he was forbidden to use, the Master of Mankind dispatches fellow primarch Leman Russ to attack Prospero itself. But Magnus has seen more than the betrayal of Horus – and the witnessed revelations will change the fate of his fallen Legion, and its primarch, forever.

The story about Magnus the red is a thrilling tale with big battles, many insights about the warp and the thousand sons.
While Magnus and the human side characters are well described and developed I did not connect with the Astartes protagonists. sadly they seemed quite interchangable, which is problematic when they have to carry a lot of the drama.

Interesting tale, expandable characters

Dieses Hörbuch ist super spannend. Die Hintergrundgeschichte der Thousand Sons ist packend, mitreißend und tragisch zugleich. Der Sprecher schafft es, diesem Hörbuch und all seinen Charakteren Leben einzuhauchen

Spannend & Packend

Cool story about the background of the Thousand Sons. Depicts how the immaterium and psikers might work. Good read. Maybe they are no traitors after all.

Lore at its best

The book itself is a 10/10 no question about it but the narrator is not my cup of tea. Over all he is really talented but gets some characters „wrong“ for me. When speaking as Ahriman he kind of adopts the voice of an old sage while Ahriman’s body is that of a warrior in his thirties at best. He’s also narrating the space wolves like they are from Transylvania or something - especially Russ sounds like Count Dracula and Lorgar sounds like he has a cold lmao. I bet he did other books from different universes a lot better but I can’t immerse myself with the voices he delivers for well established characters.

A superb book narrated by someone who is not super familiar with the characters he’s impersonating
