Über diesen Titel
In a fake world, Michael must confront his fears and overcome personal challenges to survive. Along with other unfortunate individuals from Earth, he finds himself suddenly teleported to a mysterious realm where danger and opportunity are intertwined.
Struggling with his weight and insecurities, Michael sets out to unravel the secrets of this unfamiliar world. He faces the desolate stone city, monstrous threats lurking beyond its borders, and the enigmatic System Store, each presenting unique challenges and prospects for growth.
The Systemic Lands is a dark, progressive LitRPG that delves into the grittier side of survival progression stories. It offers a refreshing perspective as the protagonist grapples with his vulnerabilities rather than embodying the archetypal super athlete, ready to face adversity at the drop of a hat.
©2023 MisterVii (P)2023 MisterViiOur MC starts out obese, as you can see in the title picture, but his efficiency at going outside the city walls to kill monsters quickly sheds the pounds. He drives himself hard, determined to stay ahead of the power curve, and he's willing to do whatever it takes. That includes braving unknown dangers as well as killing whoever gets in his way.
If I had to pick a single word to describe Michael it'd be ruthless. He's smart and very morally grey, considering the potential drawbacks and benefits of every situation before picking his optimal outcome. This leads to innocent deaths sometimes, since his personal freedom is his topmost goal, and he figures he'll only stay free if he positions himself as someone not to be messed with. Early on he kills a group that might otherwise spread word about his monster grinding spot, for example. That's not to say he's a murderhobo - he makes sure to be in good standing with those who rise in political power, and treats informants and guards with respect. He's also willing to work with others for mutual gain.
People who prefer reading about MCs with modern ideas of morality won't be happy with this story. But people who are sick of heroes and self-sacrifice might enjoy this book quite a bit.
Aside from Michael's personality, something I greatly enjoy is the sense of mystery that surrounds the plot. It's focused on day to day survival, but with interesting underlying questions aside from "which monsters are waiting in the next biome?". How and why are people getting transported into this strange setting? Who's behind it and what's their goal?
Ruthless!
