Verschiedene Londons, Magie, Weltenbummler, Diebe, Bösewichte ... und dazu noch eine tolle Erzählerstimme und klasse Handlung. Was will man mehr! Ich fand das Buch super.

I often had the feeling during the story that now it would come to an end and checked the timer frantically because I didn't want it to end and was released to see when the half of the story hadn't even passed yet. But at the same time it never felt as if a twist was forced, as if a new story suddenly and inexplicably unfolded. Everything merged together perfectly and as the story went on I could follow the logical and very cleverly planted path of the story. Schwab is an amazing writer! I just wish that they would have picked one speaker instead of letting two do it. It just sounds so unnatural. Kate Reading would have been my very clear first and only choice. And it was also sad that she is speaker much less than him...even though she was better by far!

Herrlich spritzige Dialoge, vorgetragen von zwei hervorragenden Sprechern, an deren Interpretation der einzelnen Charaktere ich meine helle Freude hatte. Das ganze Konstrukt mit einem britischen Charme kombiniert ... Spaß und Spannung von der ersten bis zur letzten Minute. Mein neues Lieblingshörbuch.

Firstly, it seems like VE Schwab likes the sudden raise in stakes rather than a slow build up that creates more tension in the story overall. This leads to me thinking i was reading a different version of harry potter and the goblet of fire with the triwizarding tournament now as elemental magic. It was a nice story and you get to know the characters a lot more, and they do develop. Suddenly there’s a big showdown and the end is the perfect cliffhanger (which i really don’t mind, but it doesn’t let you sleep well after finishing the book late at night ^^). Overall, i enjoyed it a lot more than the first book. I felt like there should have been a few more repercussions for the way lilah is blundering through life, but maybe that’s yet to come (getting away with revenge killing, etc).
The move with 2 readers was quite a nice idea to immediately see whose perspective you were reading from, but then it was a bit annoying when the same character had 2 voices. Much better readers than for book 1 in either case though! Especially the female reader was great. The guy liked to end his sentences with his voice going up rather than down (which i would have assumed normally indicates a full stop).
This one was very 4.5 for me. Could have gone 4 or 5.

Interest story with lots of character development and seemingly lower stakes, until…

Selten habe ich eine so schlechte Phantersiestory gehört. Gelesen war sie super, der Plot öde. Waste of time!
