Martin tosses the listener into a world as full of life as our own.We meet the characters in a time of peace, but not long after we join them chaos unfolds...The story is told from a multitude of perspectives, making it hard to determine who is villain and who is hero, or if there are any of them at all. The reading by Roy Dotrice is superbly fitted to the style of the stories and he gives each character it's own voice making it easy to determine who is speaking without being told.I do not know wether the German audioversion is good or not, but it will have a very hard time surpassing this one.

If this isn't Epic Fantasy, what is?

... und "A Song of Ice and Fire" wird sie auf eine lange Reise mitnehmen, denn es warten bisher 5(!) Bücher auf Sie und es sollen noch min. 2 weitere folgen. Fakt ist, dass ich seitdem Ich mir "A Game of Thrones" als Hörbuch gekauft habe, jeden Monat darauf warte, mit das nächste Buch kaufen zu können.
(der Fluch des Abos ^^)

Die Serie ist nicht ohne Grund so gehyped und das erste Buch bietet alles was der geneigte Leser/Hörer braucht:

"The first volume in Martin's first fantasy saga combines intrigue, action, romance, and mystery in a family saga." (Booklist)

Das Zitat sagt eig. schon alles und noch etwas mehr.

Intrigen Spielen in allen Teilen der Reihe eine große Rolle und wer nicht gerne liest wie "gute" Charaktere vor die Hunde gehen, weil andere, denen man nach den ersten Kapiteln schon den Hals umdrehen möchte, immer höher aufsteigen, der muss diese Geschichte trotzdem durchstehen. Kaum jemand hat den Mut Charaktere so toll aufzubauen und dann so sytematisch zu zerstören. (Außer vielleicht Suzanne Collins die in "the Hunger Games" ihre sowieso schon soziopathische Heldin SO systematisch kaputt schreibt, dass es einem echt vergehen kann.)
Aber hier hat das alles Sinn, ein Nachspiel, Folgen, Konsequenzen für die gesante Fantasy Welt in der Game of Thrones spielt.
Diese Welt ist so groß und komplex, dass ich persönlich am Ende jedes Buches eine kurz zusammenfassung gelesen habe um noch durchzusteigen, wer jetzt mit wem was anzettelt und gegen wen.

Aktion fehlt auch nicht, es gibt (vorallem in den späteren Büchern) Schlachten, Duelle und Turniere. Wer die Serie gesehen hat, wird merken, dass viele dieser Szenen (aus kosten Gründen) nur narrativ dargestellt sind. Im Buch gibt es epische Aktion.

"Romance" ähm ja... es wird eine ganze Menge gefögelt, geliebt und gemächtelt. Zu 80% überschneidet sich das mit den Intrigen :)

Mystery finde ich in diesem Buch sogar noch besser, als Fantasy. Magie und Fabelwesen werden zwar erwähnt, tauchen aber kaum auf und gelten als "Geschichte". Ab Buch 2 geht's dann richtig los mit Fantasy content.

Roy Dotrice fand ich am Anfang schwierig zum reinhören, bin inzwischen begesitert. Es gab bisher nur einen Character (in Buch 4) dessen Interpretation mir garnicht gefallen hat. (Wenn man Rumrotzen auch akustisch darstellen muss... igitt.)
Ansonsten ist er vielfältig wie der uns Deutschen durch Harry Potter oder Artemis Fowl bekannte Rufus Beck und seine Stimme passt 100% zu dem Setting. Perfekte Wahl, kein Thema, Top, Hut ab.

A Game of Thrones sollten sie Kaufen, Wenn:
-kein wenn. Anhören! (Vielleicht erstmal die Serie anschauen ob der Stoff einem liegt -das Buch ist noch besser!)

A Game of Thrones sollten NICHT sie Kaufen, Weil:
- Martin kennt nix, wenns darum geht Charaktere ins Gras beißen zu lassen.
- Joffrey weckt in jedem den ich kenne Mordgelüste.
- Die Buchserie hat in 15Jahren 5/7 Bücher hervorgebracht -> 6Jahre warten auf das Ende?

Unglaublich packende und fesselnde Geschichte. Der Sprecher war für mich leider sehr enttäuschend. Gerade weibliche Stimmen kommen häufig unglaubwürdig rüber

The books? - You love them or you don't - I love them.

Roy Dotrice? - perfect choice. A voice sharp as a blade, versatile enough to give each character its own flair...

I actually read the books a number of years back, and when coming across them on audible and listening to the sample had to have them, too... I haven't regretted it.

George R.R. Martin and Roy Dotrice are a perfect match - a pleasure to listen to from the first to the last second of the first to the fifth book... and listen to it again and again.

What a shame the author didn't finish writing the A Song of Ice and Fire for Roy to perform the last book as well, unfortunately the actor passed away in 2017...
