Malachi Vize has always had one desire in life. One goal. One deep obsession he could never give up on. His foster sister Olivia. For the first time, she’s chosen him over the entire world, and he intends to keep her in his firm grasp forever – but his happiness is soon shattered by powerful enemies who want to claim Olivia for themselves. He had her. But then he lost her. Wounded and still wrestling with his own demons, Malachi is forced into unexpected alliances to hunt them down, but he won’t stop fighting until he gets her back. No matter what it takes. This story comes with extremely triggering content. Please read the "Content Warning" page.

Amazing voice actors at work.
It was a bit hard to adjust from Joe Arden (who played Malachi brilliantly in the first book) to the new voice actor.
His voice is very nice to listen to, his acting was very good, but it was hard to follow Joe Arden's completely deranged and struggling Malachi. Still, it was an amazing experience.
Amazing Second Part

I know BookTok is hyping up this Duet but there is no plot, Olivia is probably the worst FMC to ever exist and if it wasn’t for Malachi and Grayson Owen‘s performance this would have been a complete waste of time. Olivia has been groomed by her mom since she was adopted by the Vize family but unlike actual grooming, Olivia is very much aware of what her mother has been doing and still obliges despite her occasional outbursts of defiance which inevitably lead nowhere. In my opinion, a very inaccurate portrayal of grooming. One might argue that her past trauma, etc. allows Olivia to be persuaded into doing what she’s told but even then none of that makes sense.
Also, why is it that the parents keep insisting on trying to get Malachi to go to therapy but not once is it brought up that Olivia should go too? The girl suffered severe childhood trauma that she still struggles with later on in her life. I’d assume it’s because she is the obedient child and her mother might fear that she’d grow more defiant and more difficult to control. But the dad is actually a decent guy and loves Olivia but fails to put his foot down. He’s even aware of his wife’s infidelity. Mrs. Vize could be considered a master manipulator if she didn’t have the IQ of a loaf of bread. A caricature of a villain that makes me wonder why Malachi didn’t snap earlier.
Seriously though? Leigh Rivers‘ debut trilogy was a masterpiece. But the Web of Silence Duet is a lazy attempt to ride that wave. Very sad. I’ve never witnessed an author decline like that. And it actually makes me dread the release of Base&Lu’s story. I fear she was a one hit wonder.
