The show starred Dick Powell as the titular character, a wisecracking former police officer turned private detective.Episodes typically opened with a client visiting or calling Diamond's office and agreeing to his fee of $100 a day plus expenses, or Diamond taking on a case at the behest of his friend and former partner, Lt. Walter Levinson. Diamond would then embark on a dangerous investigation, often involving beautiful women, ruthless criminals, and deadly secrets.Despite the danger involved in his work, Diamond always maintained his cool and his sense of humor.
