  • The Psychologist vs. God podcast aims to explore how various religions and spiritualities may help or hinder mental health in individuals, families, and communities, and to better understand how common mental health practices align or fail to align with different types of religious beliefs and practice. Qualitative differences between individual experiences with chosen belief, life events, and subsequent mental health outcomes are expected and of great interest. More provocatively, each episode will consider whether or not religions and other spiritualities have existed as uncontested crimes that humanity has committed against itself. Each episode will also be pondering whether or not humans should be seeking more intently to believe. What will the stories tell us?

The Psychologist vs. God podcast aims to explore how various religions and spiritualities may help or hinder mental health in individuals, families, and communities, and to better understand how common mental health practices align or fail to align with different types of religious beliefs and practice.

The working assumption at the outset of the project is generally that all religions tend to enable forms of emotional immaturity that can lead to other problems, such as common disorders (anxiety, depression, personality) and relationship problems. In particular, the project is focused on the way “Everyday Narcissism” (VanDyken) seems to take root as religious narratives are adopted.
