This is a strange one. 🤔
The inciting incident is very strong, the story is average at best, and the protagonist is a whiny child.

The protagonist makes a few very silly decisions and the narration reinforces that it was the right one. But a lot of trouble are caused by the protagonist and her defeatist mentality.
For example, the protagonist scares off the only help she has for a big fight, so that she doesn't lose that person, talking as if death is certain. And she thinks she has a better chance without the help? This felt like the auther coming up with artificial conflict to pad out act 2.

This feels like a book written by somebody with good ideas, but not yet enough experience to form a cohesive picture.

The reader is excellent. no complaints at all.

I will give the second book a chance to see if the author got better. ...Or in case the protagonist goes through some character development.
