The Origins and History of Consciousness draws on a full range of world mythology to show how individual consciousness undergoes the same archetypal stages of development as human consciousness as a whole. Erich Neumann was one of C. G. Jung's most creative students and a renowned practitioner of analytical psychology in his own right. In this influential book, Neumann shows how the stages begin and end with the symbol of the Uroboros, the tail-eating serpent. The intermediate stages are projected in the universal myths of the World Creation, Great Mother, Separation of the World Parents, Birth of the Hero, Slaying of the Dragon, Rescue of the Captive, and Transformation and Deification of the Hero. Throughout the sequence, the Hero is the evolving ego consciousness.

Great book, horrible speaker
Great structure and an interesting idea that goes on for a few thousand pages while it could have been a few hundred instead.
I thought this to be a bit long, but the inherent repetition helps with memorization. But even then, it’s impossible to retain all the examples that are given throughout the book.
Sadly the pompous tone of the speaker makes this a very long and unpleasant listen.

The perfect follow up to C. G. Jungs works.
Anyone interested in mythology, or psychological theory should give this a try, not just those who are interested in Jung as Erich Neumann has quite his own take on the works of both Jung and Freud which still hold up to this day and are thought provoking.
William Roberts does not do a great job at making it easy to listen or follow the sentences. It sounds like a 50s radio drama. Would appreciate a re-ecording.

good story - horrible speaker
while the book and the story are great, the speaker creates A DESASTER.
The only positive point that can be mentioned about HIM, is the fact that he can be well understood.
Nobody will enjoy listening the book for more than 10 minutes.
Then you need to rest.
He talks like someone who wants to sell rotten tomatoes.
Please make a new recording of the excellent book.
