Nicht, was ich erwartet habe...
Ich habe mir das Hörbuch gekauft, weil "The Fall of Gondolin" meine Lieblingsgeschichte aus dem Tolkien Universum ist und ich mir dachte, dies wäre eine lange Fassung der Story aus dem "Book of Lost Tales". Sehr irritiert war ich, als genau die Story aus dem "Book of Lost Tales" gleich zu Anfang vorgelesen wurde. Man bekommt hier zwischen den verschiedenen Versionen der Story die Gedanken von J.R.R. Tolkien bzgl. der Entwicklung und seiner eigenen Gefühle hinsichtlich der Gesamtgeschichte mitgeteilt. Dies ist für den ein oder anderen bestimmt interessant, steht aber nicht in der Buchbeschreibung. Hoffnung keimte in mir auf, als das Kapitel "The final Version" anfing. Allerdings endet dieses mit dem Eintreffen Tuors in Gondolin. Mir bleiben noch zwei Stunden zu hören und vielleicht gibt es ja noch eine fertige Gesamtversion, aber viel Hoffnung habe ich nicht.
Insgesamt drei Sterne von mir, weil die eigentliche Story nach wie vor super ist. Ein Stern Abzug, weil in der Beschreibung nicht deutlich wird, was einen genau in diesem Buch erwartet.
Ein Stern Abzug, weil ich diese Art die Story zu veröffentlichen für reine Geldmacherei halte, denn in den "Book of Lost Tales" steht die eigentliche Story schon drin.

It is no Long Version of the Tale
Sadly it is just a summary of different versions and thoughts of Mr. Tolkien.
A bit dissapointed it is nothing new top the Story of lost Tales

Rather a composition of separate texts
I expected to be told the story of Gondolin from start to finish. However, the audiobook contains separate smaller and larger parts that are not sorted chronologically. Additionally, some of these texts are explanations about why some parts of the story are in the presented form with some details about Tolkien's writing process. I think that this approach is not made clear by the description.
Further, I find it distracting that the main voice is interrupted by another voice when some background notes are read.
All in all, I expected that Christopher Tolkien filled in the gaps in the story so that the audiobook is sufficiently detailed and fluent comparable to The Children of Hurin. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Therefore, I cannot recommend this product for customers with expectations similar to mine.
