But in the eyes of his watchful masters, he is destined for a far greater role in the ultimate Sith plan for the galaxy - if he can prove himself truly worthy.
As an acolyte in the Sith academy, studying the secrets and skills of the dark side at the feet of its greatest masters, Dessel embraces his new Sith identity: Bane. However the true test is yet to come. In order to gain acceptance into the Brotherhood of Darkness one must fully surrender to the dark side through a trial by fire that Bane, for all his unquenchable fury and lust for power, may not be strong enough to endure...especially since deception, treachery, and murder run rampant among the Sith disciples, and utter ruthlessness alone is the key to survival. Only by defying the most sacred traditions, rejecting all he has been taught, and drawing upon the long-forgotten wisdom of the very first Sith can Bane hope to triumph - and forge from the ashes of that which he must destroy a new era of absolute dark power.

Super story
Einfach cool für jeden Star wars fan, leider fand ich es manchmal schwer dem Wechsel vom Narrator zu bane zu bemerken, da es sich teilweise sehr ähnlich anhörte.

A great experience!
It is rare, that an audio book has made me long so much for any chance to listen to it.
I loved it. Especially the end gave me relief and an appetite for more at the same time.
I am grateful for the experience and commend every one's effort.

Fantastisches Buch/Fantastic book

Ich kann es jedem nur empfehlen, sich dieses Buch anzuhören, der tiefer in das Star Wars Universum eintauchen möchte und vielleicht auch einen tieferen Einblick in die Philosophie der offensichtlichen Bösen erhalten will.
Drew Karpyshyn hat es geschafft, einen Charakter der nur als böse bezeichnet werden kann trotzdem so sehr auszuarbeiten, dass sein Denken nachvollziehbar erscheint und für den Charakter schlüssig. Die Entwicklung des Charakters ist logisch zu verfolgen und stellt die Beweggründe der sonst häufig sehr eindimensionalen Sith sehr gut dar.
Ein absolut fesselndes Buch und meiner Meinung nach das beste Star Wars Buch!

I can whole heartedly recommend listening to this book to everyone who wants to dive deeper into the Star wars universe and gain a further understanding of the philosophy of an group that is portrayed as so obviously evil.
Drew Karpyshyn has managed to delve so deeply into this clearly evil character that his train of thought throughout the book not only can be followed but also seems reasonable if viewed from his perspective. The development of the character is logical and the objectives of the sith in the surrounding media is very well established by the contents of this book.
A absolutely thrilling book and in my opinion the best work in the Star wars universe!

Endlich!!
Ich bin begeistert, endlich mal eine Geschichte im Star Wars Universum die sich weder um Jedi noch die Zeitspanne der Filme dreht. Ein wirklich toller Einblick in die Tiefen der Dunklen Seite. Endlich versteht man die Beweggründe der Sith anstatt sie nur plump als die "Bösen" vorgesetz zu bekommen wie sonst immer.
PS. Für mich war dieses Hörbuch auch hervorragend zur Erweiterung meiner Englisch Kenntnisse, da ich doch einige Wörter nachgeschlagen habe die mir sonst noch nie begegnet sind.

Legendär!

Best bit of star wars I ever heard!
I really liked the origin story of Darth Bane. The philosophy of the sith ist very well established. I was really captivated by the story. I can only recommend it and will now continue with the second book.

Gute Geschichte, leider kein Kanon mehr
Gute Geschichte die mich auch gefesselt hat. Freue mich auf Teil 2.
An manchen Stellen, wie schon bei Darth Plagues, ist der Ton plötzlich anders als ob die Aufnahme unter anderen Bedingungen statt gefunden hätte. Stört aber nur minimal und ist sofort vergessen.

Good story, average execution
I really enjoyed the story, the main character and the overall plot.
Sadly i didnt like the writing style of the author.
He keeps alot of details of scenery, battles and situations very vague and later he adds details, which totally change your perception. Done once or twice it is a interesting plot twist if executed correctly but here i felt always loosing my immersion into the world because i felt like my phantasy build up images and then i had to suddenly change it when Karpyshyn adds new details which totally change the outcome.
For example, no spoilers, imagine i tell you a story about an elephant and a lion talking to each other and how they try to outwit each other. But when the lion almost finds a way to win against the elephant you suddenly find out how the latter anticipated this and prepared a plan to win himself, because he is actually a elephant with 3 legs and 1 eye who got a pink skin from a radioactive plant that he ate when he was still a human being.
You will be like; WTF.... this is totally not what i imagined up till now!
And thats how i always felt about the sudden changes or additions to the narration of the scenes and thats the only reason why i give this book only 4 stars instead of 5 even though i liked this story.
