Everett Larkin works for the Cold Case Squad: an elite - if understaffed and overworked - group of detectives who solve the forgotten deaths of New York City. Larkin is different from others, but his deduction skills are unmatched and his memory for minute details is unparalleled.
So when a spring thunderstorm uproots a tree in Madison Square Park, unearthing a crate with human remains inside, the best Cold Case detective is assigned the job. And when a death mask, like those prominent during the Victorian era, is found with the body, Larkin requests assistance from the Forensic Artists Unit and receives it in the form of Detective Ira Doyle, his polar opposite in every way.
Factual reasoning and facial reconstruction put Larkin and Doyle on a trail of old homicide cases and a murderer obsessed with casting his victims’ likeness in death. Include some unapologetic flirting from Doyle, and this case just may end up killing Everett Larkin.

Perfection
When I first started listening, I wasn't really convinced by the narration, because I had some troubles differentiating the characters. BUT now that I've listened to this book A LOT of times, I have to say - I don't think anyone else could have narrated this book. Kale Williams is outstanding in his performance. Everett Larkin, a detective with the cold case squad of the NYPD, has some unique speech patterns and the narration is utter perfection. I love everything about it.

Nearly perfect
Too short but otherwise perfect. Great, exciting storytelling, believable characters and sweet budding romance. And Kale Williams does a perfect job, I really love his voice.

Really cool
I loved the characters. I loved the plot and the slow build-up of friendship and attraction between the protagonists. I also loved the way Everett's condition was portrayed, what did and didn't work for him when it comes to coping mechanisms.
The murder mystery was well put together and it took me a good while to figure out who the guilty party was.
The narrator does a fantastic job in showing Larkin's speech mannerisms and gives Doyle a different voice as well .
All in all I hope we'll get a second story with these two!

Great!

Fesselnde neue Serie
Mit interessanten, detaillierten Charakteren in, typischer C. S. Poe Art, schön verwundener Storyline. Toll gelesen. Freu mich schon auf die nächsten Teile.

Where is the second part?
I absolutely loved the story. Evi struggles so much but it is told so that one really understands how difficult navigating daily life is for him. And it makes you want to reach out and help. Ira is also portraied in the most believable way. And the narrator does an amazing job of giving all the characters their very own personality. I can‘t wait for the second part to be out as an audiobook!

Really good story
The story is really good. The solving of the case is plausible and the personal relationships believable. Very nice done is the voice of Doyle.
